Windows XP software updates end on July 13

May 28, 2010

Microsoft will no longer be providing software updates for Microsoft Windows XP service pack 2 (SP2) after July 13 (approximately 2 weeks away).  This means that newly discovered hacks, exploits and vulnerabilities will no longer be fixed by Microsoft after July 13. It is estimated that fully 50% of computers in the United States are still running on Windows XP SP2.

There are three options available to solve this dilemma:

  1. Upgrade your Windows XP operating system to Service Pack 3.  The easiest way to do this is to use the Windows Update service located in your computer
  2. Upgrade your computer to Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 7 Professional.  This is a great platform and is signficantly improved over the troubled Windows Vista.
  3. Purchase a new computer which will automatically come with Windows 7 preloaded.  This is a viable option for older computers.

If you do not feel comfortable performing any of these options on your own, we would be happy to assist you.  Just give us a call and we will take care of it for you.
