Exploit in Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 discovered

May 22, 2010

Microsoft has issued a warning that describes a vulnerability in the Aero user interface.  Aero is enabled by default in Windows 7 and is an optional component of Windows 2008 R2.

According to Microsoft the vulnerability is in the display driver and can cause the system to crash and restart.  Microsoft has rated this a low probability that hackers would be able to create a usable attack mechanism to exploit the vulnerability in the next 30 days.  People concerned about the exploit are encouraged to turn off the Aero interface.
