Microsoft changes upgrade pricing for Office 2010

May 14, 2010

Back in January Microsoft announced that they would no longer offer upgrade pricing on their flagship product Office 2010.  There are still ways to save money though when moving from older versions of Office to 2010.

You can purchase license keys (physical pieces of paper with the product key on it) from retail locations.  These key cards as Microsoft refers to them will not contain any installation DVD/CD.  You can either download the trial edition from Microsoft’s website or use the preinstalled version if you purchase a new computer.  You would then input the product key and the software will be activated.

Microsoft is offering three versions of Office 2010 and the savings using the key cards are as follows:

Office Home and Student – $30 savings *
Office Home and Business – $80 savings
Office Professional – $150 savings

* The regular version of Office Home and Student allows you to install on up to 3 computers.  The key card version only allows it to be installed on one computer.
