Computer prices likely to rise in coming months

April 16, 2010

According to researchers at IDC, computer manufacturers saw a 24.2% increase in sales during Q1 2010.  This is the second straight set of quarterly sales increases with Q4 2009 seeing  a 15.2% increase.

One of the main reasons for the increase were discounts and promotions to lure in business and consumer sales especially during the Christmas season.  The other contributing factor for the increase was that a majority of corporate purchases were put on hold during 2009.  Businesses have begun to replace obsolete equipment and those delayed purchases are now being seen in the industry numbers.

It is likely that computer manufacturers will raise prices in order to boost profits.  We have already seen pricing from the major manufacturers increase by $50 – $100 on the consumer PCs.
